Children and Youth Education:

CHILD CARE
On Sundays, child care is available for infants (age 0-1 year) in Rm F207 and toddlers through preschoolers in Rm F210 in the Sunday School hallway from 9-11:30am.

GAMES and FELLOWSHIP are provided from 9:00-9:30 am in Rm F203 for children and youth whose parents are attending Adult Ed.

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School for children and youth is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. (including worship). Each week we collect an offering which goes to buy coats for the
Holiday Family Offering in the fall and to help support the Youth Mission Trip which takes place in the summer.

AGES 3 - KINDERGARTEN in Room F211 (The Jim Dunlap Room)
Curriculum - Bible Quest
The children in this class learn about God's love as the teacher shares with them the wonderful stories of the Bible. They begin with the Old Testament and by the end of the year have heard the stories of Jesus and what God's love means to them.

GRADES 1 - 5 in Room A206, the Chapel/Choir room, for Sunday School Music.
This is our rotating workshop group. The first 10 minutes are spent with Christina Pressley, Director of Children and Youth Ministries. We then proceed to whichever class is on the rotation. Rather than assigning a room to a particular class, rooms are based on a specific teaching tool and used by all grades over the course of several weeks. Our workshops include art, audio/visuals, Bible games, computers, cooking, and drama. The classes rotate to a new workshop each week. The results are:

    • Children more fully engaged in each learning environment
    • Children having use of a computer workshop
    • Children wanting to come back because they have other workshops to forward to in the weeks to come
    • Adults teaching in their area of expertise and children who can feel their enthusiasm
    • Children learning the "story" via all their senses - not just from reading, listening, and coloring around tables. They experience the story in multiple authentic learning environments. (We believe this helps with retention for better integration of the faith story in their hearts and minds.)
    • Another gift of the curriculum is its emphasis on how our study of the Bible impacts what we believe and combines that with a spiritual practice.

PRE-CONFIRMATION CLASS, GRADES 6 - 8, meet in Room A206, the Chapel/Choir Room for Sunday School Chapel, then proceed to Room F203
The curriculum cycles through a three-year program. The first year we study the New Testament to help students make connections and see the whole picture of how Jesus relates to their life now. The next year, the class learns about the Church's history and what it means to be Presbyterian. The following year focuses on the fascinating stories of the Old Testament and how they form a foundation for our faith.

As part of their Confirmation preparation, the youth learn what it means to be a member of the church by participating in a monthly service project and volunteering to help in different aspects of worship.

SENIOR HIGH  meet in room A206 for Sunday School Chapel and then proceed to the Rainbow Room, F201
The Senior Highs use videos, tapes, movies, and television shows to discuss question relevant to today. They also participate in agreed upon service projects.

CHILDREN IN SUNDAY WORSHIP
Children and youth attend the beginning portion of worship as part of their Sunday School experience.  Children, youth, and teachers disperse after the Children’s Sermon (during Joys and Concerns) to one of the following:

·         Attend Childcare in Rm F210 (children up to age 5)

·         Leave worship with family/guardian

ACOLYTE PROGRAM - Children and youth, age ten through Jr. High, are invited to serve as acolytes during our worship services. Responsibilities include lighting the candles, processing, and ringing the church bell.

YOUTH CHOIR – Children and youth in grades 3 and up meet on Sunday afternoons (4-5pm) to rehearse and present their anthems in worship once a month.
