The purpose of Concord Preschool and Childcare is to provide a quality program for all of the enrolled children. The teachers create an environment in which each child is free to play, learn, experiment and grow at his/her own rate. Appropriate actions and behavior will be encouraged and developed through daily living in a Christian atmosphere with skillful, loving staff members.

Concord Preschool and Childcare is a non-profit organization and operates as a service to the community and the surrounding area. We are a ministry outreach of Concord Presbyterian Church. The program is governed by the Session of Concord Presbyterian Church and is administered by the Preschool Committee. Concord Preschool has been a member of NKAD (Nursery Kindergarten Association of Delaware) since 1977. They recognize and evaluate the professional goals of our program and staff. Concord Preschool is also licensed through the State of Delaware, meeting state licensing requirements on a yearly basis.

Preschool only hours            9:00 AM – 11:30 AM
PM Preschool only hours      12:30 PM – 3:00 PM (4 year olds only)

About Our Preschool Program: 

  • Concord Preschool offers 2 day, 3 day and 5 day Programs
  • We accept ages 1 year old – Kindergarten during the school year
  • All of the children will attend Gym and Music
  • The children 3 years old - Kindergarten will attend Chapel once a month
  • We offer Computer Tots and Spanish to our families of children ages 3 years old – Kindergarten
  • Registration for preschool starts in January. We enroll until the classes are full

Kindergarten:

 We offer a quality full day Kindergarten program from 9:00AM – 3:00 PM

Concord Preschool’s comprehensive Kindergarten program reflects our belief that learning is an interactive process. Here at Concord, we reinforce social skills and peer interaction, as well as academics.

            We support our children in developing self-esteem and learning to respect the strengths, backgrounds, and talents of others. We present the program through the use of activity centers in language arts, mathematics, art, science and social studies. Emphasis is placed on hands-on experiences with appropriate materials. Our kindergarten curriculum encourages each child to develop as an individual and provide each child with challenging activities at his or her own level. The class is small so your child will receive a lot of one-on-one instruction.

            In 1956 Concord Preschool started as a kindergarten center with many kindergarten classes. We are proud to keep this tradition with a quality program. We offer a full day program, as well as before and after care. The kindergarten class will go on 5 to 6 field trips per year. These trips include the Academy of Natural Sciences, Hagley Museum and the Playhouse Theater. Some of the classroom skills are reinforced by the use of a classroom computer.

            Concord Preschool’s Kindergarten is a fun, safe, quality program. Your child will receive a comprehensive program that he or she will enjoy and remember for years to come.

 Nature Camps:

             During the summer, we offer two 2-week nature camps. This is a part-time camp from 9:00AM – 12:00PM for children ages 3 – 9 years old.

            The children will enjoy arts and crafts, fun outside activities and one field trip per session. The field trip is included in the price of the camp. The children will bring a lunch and eat with their friends.

 Summer Childcare Camp:

             Our summer childcare camp is a fun and interactive program for children ages 1 – 9. We have a theme every week and we do fun learning activities to reinforce each theme. The activities include arts and crafts, in-house shows and fun outside activities. Children ages 4 and older will attend field trips and kindergarten and older children will go to the pool.

  • We offer 2 day, 3 day, and 5 day programs.
  • Our summer hours are 7:15AM – 5:45PM.

Children’s Performances: All performances are held in the church sanctuary

 Grandparents Day Celebration: The children will sing songs to honor their grandparents and family. This performance is held the day before Thanksgiving and there is a cookie reception in Fellowship Hall that follows!

 Christmas Chapel:  The kindergarten class will act out the nativity scene during the December chapel. The 3 and 4 year old classes sing during the service also.

 Spring Musical: In May, the children ages 3 years old – Kindergarten will perform a spring musical. All friends and families are welcome to come see the children sing.

 Kindergarten Graduation: In May, we have our Kindergarten graduation in the Sanctuary. Our 4 year olds help us sing during the ceremony. There is a reception in Fellowship Hall that follows for the kindergarten children and their families.

 Events:

 Lunch Bunch: Lunch Bunch is extra time for the preschool only children who are enrolled in either a 3 year or 4 year old class, and don’t stay for childcare, to socialize with their peers. They children have lunch together with recess afterwards. Lunch Bunch is held Monday – Friday 11:30AM – 1:00PM.

 Conferences: In January the teachers will have conferences with the parents. This is a good opportunity for the parents to learn about their children’s progress. The conferences are for the children ages 3 year old – Kindergarten.

 End of the Year Picnic: In May we have an end of the year picnic for all of our Concord families. Everyone will enjoy hot dogs on the grill, salads and many desserts. The children will be able to play with their friends on the playground and have fun on the moon bounce.

 Parent Committee: Concord Preschool has a parent committee. They will coordinate the cookie reception after the Grandparent’s Day performance, the Christmas breakfast for the teachers, and the end of the year Teacher’s Appreciation Luncheon.

 Preschool Book Fair: Every November, the preschool has its annual Scholastic book fair. The book fair is held in Fellowship Hall the week preceding Thanksgiving. Preschool families and Concord Church members are invited to shop anytime.

 Staff appreciation Luncheon: In the early spring, the church members have a luncheon for the teachers. Concord preschool is a vibrant and active part of Concord Church, which is why the church wants to express their appreciation and thanks to our teachers with a luncheon. Church members prepare salads and desserts and join the preschool teachers in Fellowship Hall to get to know one another better.
