Worship at Concord Presbyterian Church
"We will respond to God's goodness with celebration!" WORSHIP Music is an important part of our worship. Though embracing musical diversity, our worship music tends to be traditional in style, utilizing both classical and contemporary composers. We encourage participation by children and youth in our worship services. We include a special time just for them (Children's Sermon) and include activities to help them understand and prepare for worship (God in Me). Children may also participate as acolytes. We include older youth among those asked to read scripture lessons and assist as lay worship leaders. If you visit our worship service, we hope you will make yourself known to the greeters and to the Pastor after the service. Also please provide contact information in the red attendance pads you will find in the pews. Annual Spiritual Retreat - in the Fall each year, a retreat is organized to recharge the spiritual batteries. In recent years, it has been held in Lewes, DE. An outside (non-member) resource is usually recruited to lead us in this retreat. See the On-line Events Calendar or call the church office (302-654-9652) for more details.Advent Trysts (December): After December 25 was established as the date for the celebration of the birth of Christ, early Christian families felt a need to prepare themselves for this blessed event, so they set aside four weeks before Christmas as the Advent Season. We observe a short worship service in the Chapel including lighting of the Advent wreath, special music, and moments of reflection by the pastor. Concord Women provide dessert and coffee, and you are invited to bring a sandwich to Jessie's Room for lunch. Diaspora Prayer: Diaspora, a Greek word meaning “scattered” has been used since Biblical times. Concord's Diaspora Prayer Group bears this name because we are scattered and pray, wherever we happen to be, at 9:00 a.m. on Mondays. We also pray at other times, such as during grave emergencies, for those who are ill, bereaved, or troubled, and for our pastors and staff, missionaries, and our young people away from home. Membership in the Diaspora Prayer Group is open to any member of Concord who will commit to pray at the set time and will zealously guard the privacy of those for whom we pray. Once a year we meet with our pastors for a Prayer Coffee. THE WORSHIP AND MUSIC COMMITTEE BACK TO TOP |
